About Us

Mission and Vision

The goal of this site is to gather and provide public access to all documents and data related to the development, manufacture, transport, disposal and use of Agent Orange and other military herbicides. To this end we provide user-friendly software for accessing cleaned primary data relevant to herbicide exposure, estimates of exposure opportunity that link spray activities to specific locations and time periods and background documentation from a variety of sources. We also invite users to submit their own relevant information.
Supporters and Collaborators

The work on this website would not have been possible without the work of a talented and devoted team of collaborators and the financial support from competitive grants we have been awarded over the years. Read more...

Throughout this website we provide information on how close a location was to known spray mission (the "hits" score) and also an exposure opportunity estimate that takes into account the history of past spraying at the location. We use mathematical procedures that we developed over the years and have used in studies of Vietnam Veterans. Much of our work was carried out in collaboration with the American Legion and other veterans' groups.1,2,3,4,5 In 1996 we competed for and were awarded a major grant from the National Academy of Sciences to develop methodologies that could be used in epidemiologic studies of the herbicides.6 The software used for estimating proximity to spray and exposure opportunity scores was developed by Stellman & Greene Consulting as part of that research project. Our work has undergone bi-annual oversight by the Institute of Medicine, which has strongly endorsed our techniques and approach.7,8,9

Over the years, the research team has received extensive support from a variety of agencies and institutions, including a major contract with the U.S. National Academy of Sciences (1998-2003) to develop an exposure methodology for use in epidemiological studies of Vietnam veterans - work which resulted in this GIS. You can view a summary of this support here.

Stellman & Greene Consulting was founded in 2003 by principals Jennifer Greene and Andrew Stellman to build software for academia and business, provide services for managing projects and project teams, and provide training and training services for companies, software developers, and project managers. They have built custom software for scientists and researchers working on projects funded by National Science Foundation and National Academy Science. Other customers and clients include Microsoft, the National Bureau of Economic Research, MIT, Columbia University, and Notre Dame University.
